En la mitología griega, Asterión el Minotauro era un monstruo con cuerpo de hombre y cabeza de toro.Su nombre significa"Toro de Minos", y fue concebido de la unión entre Pasífae y un magnífico toro con motivo de una ofrenda divina. Fue encerrado en un laberinto diseñado por el artíficeDédalo, hecho expresamente para retenerlo,ubicado probablemente en la ciudad de Cnosos en la isla de Creta. Por muchos años, hombres y mujeres eran llevados allaberinto como sacrificio para ser el alimento.
Como murio
Euristeo, lo quiso ofrecer a Hera, pero la diosa lo rechazó al ver la ferocidad del toro por lo que Euristeo lodejó libre. El toro causó estragos allá por donde pasó. Atravesó la Argólide, cruzó el istmo de Corinto hasta que finalmente el héroe ateniense Teseo consiguiómatarlo en la llanura de Maratón
