The Eye of the Needle
It is considered one of Ken Follett’s best works. When it was published in 1979 it was such a success that two years later a script based on the novel was written andaccording to the critics it became the “best adventures, intrigue and suspense film of the year”
In this book Ken Follett tells the story of Henry Faber, a professional lethal spy known as “The Needle” whoworks for German Intelligence. He turns to be England’s most dangerous enemy as he discovers a secret that could help Hitler to win the war. On his way back to Germany his ship is wrecked during astorm, he arrives to an island and meets Lucy, a beautiful English woman who after being ignored by his paralytic husband falls in love with Faber. Now England is looking for him and Lucy is the only onewho can stop Faber from meeting Hitler and ruining D-Day’s invasion.
One of the best things about this book is the skilful manner with which the author talks about military intelligence during theSecond World War. He also describes the settings and the characters very well, every detail is so carefully written that you can almost say you know these people and places even when you haven’t seenthem or been there.
Really easy to be read and with strong, real characters, there’s no doubt this is one of the best books I’ve read recently. The story is so thrilling that you can’t stop reading itwithout wondering what is next.
In conclusion it’s a good spy novel full of suspense and unexpected situations that will catch you since the moment you read the first lines.
