The fall of the Soviet Empire

During the early to mid-1900s, the Soviet Union was feared by everyone who was their enemy, even if their defenses were strongenough. They were tamed during each war they were in, like the First and Second World War, the Cold war; and they were responsible for the separation of East and West Berlin in form of the Berlin Wall inmid-20th century. However, during 1980, the Soviet Union started declining on power and territory, people from other countries stopped being feared from them, and people supporting communism lostrespect for the Soviet Empire. People mostly debate that the Soviet Empire had three to five major reasons of its decline. I’d researched of three of these reasons of its decline: Their failure attempt ofmeeting economic goals, the corruption of its government, and the war in Afghanistan.
During 1960, the Soviet Empire promised their people that they would acquire more resources than the capitalistcountries, like the USA, and the Western Europe countries. By 1980, the communists failed to keep the promised, and became poorer than Western Europe. The most common problem the Soviets had was thelack of new technology that Western Europe now possessed, like computers and communicators. Because of this, resources at capitalist countries kept increasing much faster, and the Soviet Union wasdeclining on making their own resources. To their dismay, they ended up trading grain with most of the western rich countries, especially the USA.
Due to the lack of meeting the promised economic goals,the Soviet Empire had to think on something quick. They promised a new kind of state were everyone would be treated with the same amount of fairness and equality. However, under the leadership of LeonidBrezhnev, those plans drastically changed. Brezhnev decided to keep the money that was going to be used for a new society, and instead he used it for family problems, leaving more communists more...
