Marcelina Tovar Jiménez nació el 18 de abril de 1935, en casa de sus padres en la ranchería Alameda delRincón, en el estado de Querétaro, México. Su padre Ilario Tovar Resendiz era un campesino nacido en la Alameda del Rincón al igual que su madre Gregoria Jiménez Mondragón quien vivió toda su vida en Querétaro. Su familia, de origen queretano, fue una familia católica practicante de manera que sus primeros años de vida los pasó en Amealco de Bonfil y su educación estuvo marcada por la religión dela cuál se hizo devota. Durante los primeros años de su vida estuvo bajo el cuidado de los hermanos de su madre pues sus padres trabajaban en la siembra y recolección de Maíz, caña y frijol, ello significaba que pasaba largos ratos en casa jugando en soledad o con sus primos pues sus padres únicamente volvían al atardecer.
