OEE Report

Introduction

Balloon forming machine model 2210 H is used at futurematrix to form medical balloons out of a necked down P.E.T tubing. The averageballoon forming cycle last around three minutes including loading and unloading. The machine runs an 8 hours shift’ according to the manufacturer the output should be 20 balloons per hour.

Statement ofproblem

The average output currently is 120 per day depending on the operator, most of the scrap has to do with operator error, such as not loading the machine quick enough or not cutting theparison (necked down tube) to the correct length this process is extremely sensitive if the tubing its 1mm off that will cause enough variance to form a un useful part, also another problem is that thetemperature varies thought the day causing the machine to reach a different temperature when the balloon is formed therefore forming a part that does not meet the specification. According to themanufacturer this machine its one of the most consistent of its kind, but yet futurematrix hasn’t had a great experience with it besides not being able to putout the maximum output per day, there is also aconsiderable amount of scrap. Below I have gather up data to attempt to calculate the OEE for this particular machine.

Availability rating = 480min - 60min =420min = 0.875 = 87.5%
480min 480min

Performance rating = 120min = 120 = .75 = 75%
480/3 160Quality Rating = 120 parts -20 bad parts = 100 = .83 = 83%
120 120

OEE = 87.5% x 75% x 83% = 54%

Conclusion

According to the OEEreport the machine is under performing at 46% of its maximum capability, this is a terrible loss for the company considering that every formed balloon is worth $5 that would mean that on scrap only...
