The word 'coffee' comes from the Arabic word qahwah.The drinking of coffee as a hot beverage, including Turkish coffee was developed in the Ottoman Empire. The earliest evidence of coffee drinking comes from 15th-century Yemen. By the late 15thcentury and early 16th century, coffee had spread to Cairo and Mecca. In the 1640s, the Ottoman chronicler İbrahim Peçevi reported the opening of the first coffeehouse in Istanbul.
In more recenttimes, the traditional drinking of Turkish coffee has been diminished by the growing availability of other hot beverages such as tea, instant coffee, and other modern styles of coffee. At the sametime, fast food coffee is offered by international coffee chains such as Starbucks and Gloria Jean's Coffees.
A coffeehouse or coffee shop is an establishment which primarily serves prepared coffee orother hot beverages. As the name suggests, coffeehouses focus on providing coffee and tea as well as light snacks. Many coffee houses in the Middle East, and in Asian districts in the Western world,offer shisha, flavored tobacco smoked through a hookah.
From a cultural standpoint, coffeehouses largely serve as centers of social interaction: the coffeehouse provides social members with aplace to congregate, talk, write, read, entertain one another, or pass the time, whether individually or in small groups.
The coffeehouse name comes from the words “Eski” and “Kahve” which mean “oldcoffee” in Turkish.
The start point of this project was to make a small coffeehouse, which had to be innovative, very attractive to the people, and have a strong concept. It had to includeseveral characteristics such as:
* Space for at least 50 people.
* Number of bathrooms needed for the same amount of people.
* Kitchen
* Warehouse
* A bar
