WE ARENT ALL CRIMINALS

When a Hispanic immigrant is accused of committing a crime the society does not doubt and does not hesitate to blame him/her for the simple reason of being Latino.Stereotypes have increased with time and changed the humble, noble and happy image of a Latino into a criminal and dark one. Stereotypes destroy people’s integrity causing damage in theirindividuality and independence.
Stereotypes are characteristics given to groups of people with the intention of qualify and simplify them as “unusual” within what “normal” people think is “usual”.Stereotypes generalize people by judging the race, religion, sex and sexual orientation. All stereotypes are generalizations but all generalizations are not stereotypes. Stereotypes bring discriminationand stop the development of diversity between groups of people. For example, when a person meets and describes a Colombian girl as outgoing, extroverted, mundane, ordinary and loud and believes allthe rest of Colombian women are the same way. That gives a bad image to women and increases discrimination. In my opinion all stereotypes and generalizations are wrong and mistaken. We are alldifferent individuals and we are in charge of building our own reputation by our actions and not someone else’s.
In the United States, us, the biggest minority in the country are marked and somehowstained with many different stereotypes. Just as many others minorities like the African Americans. No wonder why there still exists racism all over the world. Stereotypes are the factor thatinfluences society the most filling the community and society with racism, prejudice, discrimination and even hatred. As in the case of many Mexicans and Central Americans who are badly and cruellystereotyped. Many immigrants are stereotyped as lazy workers, sluggish, welfare recipients, less well educated, drug dealers, and criminals. These kinds of stereotypes are shown very often in the media and...
