The Fellowship of the
Historical Association
(FHA)
The Historical Association has decided to create a Fellowship (with the post-nominal letters
FHA) as an honour open to any full member of the Association who meets at least one of
the following criteria:
1. S/he has made a significant contribution over time to the HA by serving as an officer at
branch or national level (i.e. as a branchpresident, secretary or treasurer, OR as a chair of
one of the national committees such as Publications, Secondary, Primary, Local History, or
the Young Historians’ scheme, OR as an editor of one of the HA’s journals, OR as a Vice
President, Deputy President, President, Honorary Secretary or Honorary Treasurer, OR by
serving in any combination of such posts over several years).
2. S/he has madea significant contribution to the teaching of History at any level by
serving, for example, for some time as a Head of Department in a school, college or
university, OR by playing a leading role in introducing a new curriculum or devising a
new form of assessment, OR by holding a senior post responsible for training History
teachers or for their career development, OR by acting in asignificant capacity as an
examiner, OR promoting the study of History outside one’s normal role or hours, etc.
3. S/he has made a significant contribution to historical scholarship OR to the teaching of
History by publication in print or electronic form.
4. S/he can clearly demonstrate by some other means that s/he has made a significant
contribution to the promotion of an interest in or knowledge ofHistory.
All applications are free and must be made by individual members of the Association.
Any full member of the Historical Association who wishes to apply for the Fellowship
must submit an Application Form and also ensure that two supporting Reference Forms
are returned independently to the HA. These forms can be obtained from and should be
returned to: The Historical Association, 59AKennington Park Road, London SE11 4JH. Please
enclose a Stamped Addressed Envelope when applying for these forms.
The Historical Association reserves to itself the right to grant the Fellowship as an honour to
a limited number of individuals who, in its opinion, have made a particularly distinguished
contribution to the promotion of historical scholarship, the teaching of history, or the aimsof the Association.

APPLICATION FORM
Please explain why you believe you meet the criteria set out below and submit the
Application Form to: The Historical Association, 59A Kennington Park Road, London SE11 4JH.
Please sign and date this Application Form. You may use additional sheets if these are
required.
It isalso your responsibility to ensure that two completed Referee’s Forms in support of
your application are also submitted to the same HA address.
The Fellowship of the Historical Association is open to any full member of the Association
