The UN General Assembly is currently having the General Debate of the 66th Session. General Debates arecharacterized by having very prominent figures (presidents, primer ministers, kings, etc.) as speakers.
Syrian Arab Republic
H.e. Mr. Walid Al-Moualem, Minister for Foreign Affairs
After theoccupation of Iraq, Syria was taken to another battle that had to choose between enduring the harassment and isolation or subjected to attack and their subsequent dictatorship. Syrian minister WalidAl-Moualem, blamed the Western nations of trying to unleash chaos to destabilize his country. He claims that popular demands for the Syrians have been manipulated by armed groups trying to sabotage the Syriansecurity as well as to different religious groups in Syria.
"How could we otherwise explain the provocations media, funding and arming of religious extremism? What other purpose could serve onlyto plant a total chaos that would lead to the dismantling of Syria?" stressed the minister.
He said that gun violence comes along with multiple economic sanctions and said that with the sanctionsthe United States and European Union threatening the livelihood needs of the Syrian people. He also claimed that the Syrian people was "determined to reject any form of foreign intervention." Toprevent became stronger and preserving their independence.
Cuba
H.e. Mr. Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Minister for Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, saidthat NATO, supposedly to "avoid a slaughter," had launched a military attack against a sovereign nation that posed no threat to peace and security. NATO had been imposed on the Security Council a"questionable" resolution. Had violated the text to bear arms and money to a party to the conflict in Libya.
