How did Philip II ensure absolute power?
Hereigned as an absolute monarch and asserted that he ruled by divine right. Because of this he saw himself as guardian of the Roman catholic church. Thus he enforced religious unity in his empire,turning the inquisition against protestants and other heretics. through this he strengthened the catholic church. Also his hard working and ambitious nature ment he devoted most of his time to governmentwork unlike other monarchs. He was an enthusiastic patron of the arts and founded academies of science and mathematics. this brought about Spain's Golden Age.
Why is the period from 1550 to 1650’sconsidered Spain’s Golden Age?
1550 to 1650 is considered Spain's Golden age because of the Reconquest, the sea voyages of Columbus to the New World, and politically, it ends no later than 1659, withthe Treaty of the Pyrenees, ratified between France and Habsburg Spain.
