SEVEN YEARS WAR
CAUSES OF THE SEVEN YEARS’ WAR
There were two main reasons for the war:
Alarmed by the growing power,ambition,and territorial expansion of Frederick the Great of Prussia,France, Austria, Sweden, Russia and Saxony formed a coalition with the express intent of destroying Prussia.Already involved in colonial conflict with France in North America and India, Britain decided toally with Prussia.
Frederick, seeing what the Coalition was planning and assured of British subsidies and the support of an Anglo-Hanoverian army to operate in western Germany, struckfirst,invading Saxony in August 1756 and thus starting the Seven Years War.
1. Fierce competition against France and Great Britain for more colonies.
2. Austria and Prussia were struggling to be the mostpowerful country in the area of Europe then called Germany.

Charles VI,Hapsburg monarch, died, leaving no male heir to the throne. Through the Pragmatic Sanction, he attempted to ensure the acceptance of his daughter, Maria Theresa of Austria, as his successor.
KingFrederick II of Prussia took advantage of the succession of a woman to the throne of Austria by invading Austrian Silesia.
While the countries of Europe accepted it at first, upon the passing of Charles,Prussia and France claimed that Salic law prohibited a female heir. In reality, these countries were simply trying to challenge the Hapsburg monarchy. Prussia also had her eye on Silesia, an importantsection of Austria.
Dispute between Prussia, a militaristic and upcoming German province, and Austria, the seat of Hapsburg Empire.
