Maker of the Model T
In his book, “Henry Ford, Maker of the Model T” published in November 1964, Henry Ford talks about his whole life, since he was a small kid till he grew up and started working with machines and finally created the most popular and nowadays necessary invention, the automobile.
Henry Ford was born in July 30, 1863; the story statedwhen he was a kid, he used to work in his father’s farm, although he never liked the farming work. He was a little boy whose interests where in somewhere else. Since he was 5, he liked to see how things worked, he also liked to fix little machine and help his neighbors fixing destroyed things. Nevertheless, his father’s dream was to see Henry as a farmer, just like him, so he forced the little kid tohelp in the farm and he also tried to make him like it because he had the idea that Henry had to be a farmer even if he did not like it. On the other hand, Henry’s mom was a really good woman, she loved her sons and daughters and she always knew how to make Henry feel better. Whenever his dad yelled at Henry, his mom was there to make him feel better and she was always proud of his son eventhough she knew he would never stay in the farm.
Henry’s interests in fixing little machines and things started in school. One day some of the older boys tried to create a water wheel. The project was going fine and everyone was interested on it, but the only problem was that they did not know how to make it work, finally Henry had an idea. He helped the older boys to make the water wheelwork. The machine was perfect but that day something went wrong and the machine exploited, that was bad because it hurt some kids so the teacher had to talk with Mr. Ford about Henry’s fault. His dad was furious and at the same time he was sad because he knew that no matter how hard he tried to convince his kid that farming was perfect for him, Henry’s love for machines was growing much more.One day, Henry’s mother died, Henry stayed closer to the farm because his dad was sad and also because he had five siblings to take care now.
Henry stayed in the farm for a while, their sisters soon learned how to do the house work and everything was going fine, when Henry was 16 he finished school and decided to leave home to find a good job where he could learn more aboutmachines. After some years of working in different machine’s companies, he got the experience he wanted and he went back to his house. Henry’s father was glad to have him back that he offered to give him a large piece of land where Henry soon will build his own business.
After some months, he met a girl, she was a very good friend of her sister Margaret and her name was Clara, theystarted dating and finally got married. Henry finally had an idea of how to build a car, he knew that steam was not the answer, instead of that he needed to use electric power but he did not have experience with that so he got a job in the Edison Illuminated Company. Shortly after that, Henry started working in his first car, Clara was always there supporting him and in 1893 his fist son, Edsel, wasborn.
Henry worked really hard on his first car, it was a good machine but it only could go forward and not backwards. Henry did not stop working until he finally created a new car, this time it would be called the “automobile”. Some years later the Henry Ford Automobile Company was formed. Henry knew his cars was doing alright but they were too expensive and just few people couldbuy them, so he started working in racing cars to get some money, he that the car would be much faster using gasoline instead of steam. Finally, he was right and we won many races. Some famous racers asked him to build their racing cars. Henry was famous now so he decided to form the Ford Motor Company at last.
