“How internet gets inside us”

This article talks about how the Internet is affecting society, according to the author there are three ways to see this change, thinking like the Never-Betters, theBetter-Nevers, or the Ever-Wasers; the Never-Betters believe that we’re on the brink of a new utopia, where information will be free and democratic, The Better-Nevers think that we would have beenbetter off if the whole thing had never happened, that the world that is coming to an end is superior to the one that is taking its place, and The Ever-Wasers insist that at any moment in modernitysomething like this is going on, and that a new way of organizing data and connecting users is always thrilling to some and chilling to others—that something like this is going on is exactly what makes ita modern moment. Each one has a specific point of view that tries to explain, “How the Internet gets inside us”.

The Gutenberg printing press had as a consequence the production of the Internetsince it produced the Reformation, which produced the Scientific Revolution, which produced the Enlightenment, which lead to the production of the Internet. According to the better-never the net hasmany negative impacts on our brain, it makes our thinking shallower, it breaks down our capacity for reflective thought, it breaks down our meditation space, it makes our attention restless andfractured and interrupts family relationships. Even though the Internet has these effects it is considered to be an unlimited library since we have access to so much information, it is like being constantlyin a library, we can benefit from this as we have new information available everyday. One of the main problems of the net is how the people let their morals loose, since nobody knows who they are theyfeel they can express all their feelings without a sense of propriety, this mainly the difference between a social network and a social circle, since the function of a social circle is to curb our...
