StockSolution Preparation

Purpose:
To providea standardoperatingprocedurefor the preparationof a stocksolution.
Scope:
This procedure applies to the preparation of a stock solution only. Stocksolution
concentration, amount and frequency of preparation will be determined by the study
protocol.
Health/Safety Warning:
When working with potentially hazardous materials, follow EPA, OSHA, andother
specific health and safety procedures. Be prepared in case of emergency (e.g.,
telephone numbers, first aid kit). Personnel should wear an apron or lab coat, gloves and
safety glasses whenhandling hazardous chemicals. Consult MSDS before handing
chemicals.
Equipment and Supplies:
Test Substance
Deionized water (or other appropriate solvent)
Appropriate size volumetric flask
Magneticstir bar and plate

Reagents:
None.

Procedure:
1. Before using the 01 system, check the resistance on the digital readout of the system
(located in electrical equipment room #111). Recordresistance as required. Standard
resistance for Type II 01 water is >1. If there is an error message on the screen, contact
the maintenance department. (See SOP #GEN 101.1).
2.

Use a balance to weighchemical for the standard solution preparation. Accuracy of the
balance should be checked on a daily basis (when the balance is used) with a calibration
weight set (see SOP #GEN 103.0 or SOP #GEN104.0).

3. Weigh amount of test substance determined by the study protocol into a tared weigh boat
and record in the appropriate log (ex., Test Substance Inventory log).
4.

Empty weigh boat intoa volumetric flask. Use a funnel if necessary.

5. Rinse weigh boat and funnel with deionized water (or other appropriate solvent) into the
