a. What is Thanksgiving Day and why do we celebrate it?
A. Thanksgivind Day first started in New England. It was for thanking God for the abundant harvest of crops. This isusually somewhere in late fall when the crops have been harvested. People from many parts of the world have been holding some kind of harvest festivals for thousands of years. They just called it bydifferent names, for example : U.K. - Harvest Festival,
China - mid-autumn festival, Korea - Chu Suk, or also known as the Harvest Moon Festival, India -Indian Harvest Festival.
In New England, thefirst Thanksgiving Day was celebrated in Plymouth in 1621 by the Pilgrims together with 91 Indians.

b. Who were the Pilgrims?
A. In September 1620, a small ship called the Mayflower leftPlymouth, England, carrying 102 passengers—an assortment of religious separatists seeking a new home where they could freely practice their faith and other individuals lured by the promise ofprosperity and land ownership in the New World. After a treacherous and uncomfortable crossing that lasted 66 days, they dropped anchor near the tip of Cape Cod, far north of their intended destination at themouth of the Hudson River. One month later, the Mayflower crossed Massachusetts Bay, where the Pilgrims, as they are now commonly known, began the work of establishing a village at Plymouth. The firstwinter in Massachusetts was really bad and 46 out of the original 102 Pilgrims died. It is believed that the Indians helped the Pilgrims through that difficult period and without them, the Pilgrimswould not have survived.
c. Mention the names of the Indians who helped the pilgrims in America?
A. In the following Spring of 1621, Samoset of the Wampanoag Tribe and Squanto of the Patuxtettribe, taught the survivors how to plant corn or maize and how to catch alewives, a kind of fish to be used as a fertilizer for growing pumpkins, beans, peas and other crops. These two braves also...
