8) Passive Voice
That topic is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known; however, who or what is performing the action. Sometimes a statement in passive is more polite than active voice.
Examples:
* Rosa writes a letter. A letter is written by Rosa.
* William listened rock music. Rock music was listened by William.* Jesus can play the electric guitar. The electric guitar can be played by Jesus.
* Veronica is drinking a cup of tea.   A cup of tea is being drunk by Veronica.
* Are they preparing the parties?  Are the parties being prepared by them?
* John collects money. Money is collected by John.
* Could you feed the dog?  Could the dog be fed by you?
* She doesn't clean her room. Her room is not cleaned by her.
* I have eaten lasagna.   Lasagna has been eaten by me.
* You should open the window. The window should be opened by you.
Is important remember and follow those tips for what don´t have mistakes and when you want to make a proper use:
* Theobject of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
* The finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle).
* The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped).
Exercises (put the answers next to the sentences):
1. We might play cards.
2. Will the teacher test our Mathematics?
3.My father is washing the car.
4. They would carry the boxes.
5. They don't help you.
6. I am writing a poem.
7. Does the police officer catch the thief?
8. She sang a song.
9. Peter had cleaned the tables.
10. You weren’t driving him home.

9) Reported Speech
Talks about when we if refer with another person has said, we usually do not use the speaker’s exactwords (direct speech), but reported (indirect) speech. Therefore, you need to learn how to transform direct speech into reported speech. The structure is a little different depending on whether you want to transform a statement, question or request.
Examples:
* He asks, “Why don’t you speak English?” He asked me why I didn’t speak English.
* He said, “Carol, speak English”.He told Carol to speak English.
* She said, "I am reading." She said that she was reading.
* They said, "We have just arrived." They said that they had just arrived.
* He said, "I will clean the car." He said that he would clean the car.
* She said, "I don't know where my shoes are." She said that she did not know where her shoeswere.
These sentences mentioned was in “backshift” form or tenses, but we put some with the”no backshift” form or tense:
* He says, “I speak English.” He says that he speaks English.
* She says, “I went to London in July”. She says that she went to London in July.
* He says, “We went to see a musical”. He says that they went to see a musical.
Isimportant remember and follow those tips for what don´t have mistakes and when you want to make a proper use (statements, questions, requests, additional information and exceptions):
* Pronouns.
* Present tense verbs (3rd person singular).
* Place and time expressions.
* Tenses (backshift).
* Transform the question into an indirect question.
* Use the interrogativeor if / whether.
* Main clauses connected with and / but.
* Tense of the introductory clause.
* Reported speech for difficult tenses.
* Exeptions for backshift.
* Requests with must, should, ought to and let’s.
Exercises:
1. "Where is my umbrella?" she asked.
2. "How are you?" Martin asked us.
3. "Has Katherine talked to Kevin?" my friend asked me....
