Holly week inEcuador
Ecuador is a country with a thriving tradition of parties and celebration. Indeed, most months include at least one major festival or long weekend; Semana Santa is the Spanish term for Holy Week,the week preceding Easter in the Catholic calendar. Semana Santa commemorates the last week of Jesus’ life, beginning with His arrival in Jerusalem, celebrated on Palm Sunday, and culminating in HisResurrection on Easter Sunday. Because Ecuador is over 90% Catholic, most of the country's major holidays and celebrations follow the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church.

Many EasterBeliefs on Holy week that our grandparents tell us, one of them is the best known of all is to go to the beach or the river as it was (or is still) considered bad or dangerous, because those who do run therisk of becoming fish or water becomes blood. Other belief is that if you have sex on Friday you can get stuck, so no priest officiate marriages at Easter and this is rather a preparation for theparties understand what the “Via Crucis” which will face is.
While others, in fact, against all rational logic, refrain from eating meat in all its forms.

Holy Week is most definitely a very sacredtime of the year, for it is now that we will commemorate and remember the last week of Jesus' life on this earth. The Lenten season of sacrifice and self-denial is about to come to an end, but thiscoming week is extremely important for all Christians. The greatest focus of the week is the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the events that led up to it.

The central feature of theservice proper to this day, as it was in the earliest times, is the procession of palms.
