RESUMEN
La familia es la primera institución educativa, su dinámica media el aprendizaje y desarrollo de sus miembros. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar la influencia de la familia en la educación de los menores del barrio Costa Azul de Sincelejo (Colombia). Se tuvieron en cuenta lascaracterísticas socioeconómicas, culturales y educativas del entorno familiar y la identificación de prácticas, visiones, significados y expectativas con respecto a la educación de sus hijos. El abordaje fue cualitativo, de corte etnográfico, e incluyó técnicas cuantitativas y cualitativas. Los resultados revelaron que los padres atribuyen importancia a la educación desde sus visiones, expectativas ysignificados, pero carecen de condiciones necesarias para impulsar el proceso; sus prácticas educativas, recursos, hábitos, tiempo, responsabilidades son limitados, lo cual es un obstáculo para el éxito en el aprendizaje de los hijos.

ABSTRACT
The Family is the first educational institution, its dynamic mediation thelearning and development of its members, the objective of this investigation is analyze the influence of the family in the education of children schooled in Costa Azul community of Sincelejo city (Colombia). For the study took into account the social, economic, cultural and educational environment of family and the identification of the visions, meanings, and expectations respect their children'seducation. To approach used to court ethnographic qualitative method, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. The results show that parents attach importance to their children education from their visions, expectations and meanings, but lacked of necessary conditions to advance the process; their educationalpractices, resources, habits, time, responsibilities are limited, becoming anobstacle to successfully develop the learning of children.

INTRODUCCIÓN
La familia a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad siempre ha sufrido transformaciones paralelas a los cambios de la sociedad. Las funciones de proteger, socializar y educar a sus miembros las comparte cada vez más con otras instituciones sociales comorespuesta a necesidades de la cultura. De aquí que las funciones de las familias se cumplen en dos sentidos: uno propio de esta institución, como es la protección psicosocial e impulso al desarrollo humano de sus miembros, y en un segundo sentido externo a ella, como es la adaptación a la cultura y las transformaciones de la sociedad.
La familia no sólo debe garantizar a los niños condiciones económicasque hagan posible su desempeño escolar, sino que también debe prepararlos desde su nacimiento para que puedan participar y aprender activamente en comunidad. Dicha preparación demanda una gran variedad de recursos por parte de la familia; éstos son económicos, disponibilidad de tiempo, valores, consumos culturales, capacidad de dar afecto, estabilidad, entre otros.
