In Greek mythology, Iris was the goddess of the rainbow and the female messenger of the Olympian gods. But she was represented mainly as Hera's personal messenger. She does not have anykind of myth of her own, and appears as a duty-running messenger and as a virgin goddess. Iris is married to Zephyrus, who is the god of the west wind. She is the messenger that brings news to all mortals and meanwhile she has to take the form of afamiliar person. She can also water the clouds with her pitcher, which was an outstanding duty. Finally her last job was to deliver the sacred water of the River Styx to the gods.
Iris is portrayed mostlyas a rainbow or a goddess with golden wings on her shoulders. She carries a herald’s staff and a pitcher of water. She is a beautiful young woman that always wore a multi-hued gown. She is describedas faithful, loyal and a shape shifter.
