James Joyce
He was the eldest of his 10 brothers, 6 women and 4 men.James begun studying at his six years in a renowned Jesuit school near Dublin on Clane, County Kildare called Clongowes School. Because of his father bad economic situation, he could only course 4years. For a while he studied at home, but then he enter to the Christian Brothers O’Connell School on North Richmond Street, Dublin. Finally he was offered a place at Belvedere College, the Jesuit’sDublin school. He was always an outstanding student.
Against his family traditions, Joyce made a break with his Catholic roots, mostly for the interest he was having for the Irish LiteraryRenaissance. He started to criticized Ireland and its conservative elements, especially the Church.
In 1898 he entered to UCD University College Dublin. There he studied English, French and Italian. He becamemember of the theatrical and literary community in the city. At that moment he started to write, he begun writing reviews. Then he started to compose articles and plays, where his friends from theuniversity where the characters.
In 1902 in opposition to his mother’s wishes, James left his country and moved to Paris for followed his dream of study medicine. He returned to his town when hismother was diagnosed of cancer.
