Yesterday I received a patient who I diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, HCC). This is the most common form of liver cancer in adults. It begins in the hepatocytes, the maintype of liver cell. About 3 out of 4 cancers that start in the liver are this type. HCC can have different growth patterns in this case a small tumor grew and later in the disease it spread to otherparts of the liver.
Analysis of patient:
The patient is a man, 57 years old and 83 kilograms. He has informed us that he is an sporty man and he often visits alcoholic establishments.
Signs:
Thepatient gave complains about an abdominal pain, which is rare at such old ages. It also made him lose 7 to 10 kilograms in less than six months, which could be explains, because the psychological testsdidn’t show any marks or signs of stress.
Symptoms:
All though this type of cancer doesn’t have any symptoms, in this case the presence of frequent high fevers could have been linked to his presentsituation. The thing which made the patient visit me was the appearing of yellow eruptions in his skin, which are commonly associated to liver related diseases
Diagnosis
In order to diagnose thepatient, he went throw some tests, in this case, imaging tests which clearly showed the presence of a tumor on the left hand side of the upper part of the liver. Other tests such as blood test didn’tindicate anything abnormal, which indicated that there weren’t any problems with the blood flow. What clearly manifested the liver cancer, where the cholesterol tests, which showed a clear enhancementsince his last check. I was 100% percent sure he had liver cancer.
Treatment:
The treatment options are dictated by the stage of liver cancer and the overall condition of the patient. In this case...
