Kids Literature

Se entiende por literatura infantil la literatura dirigida hacia el lector infantil, más el conjunto de textos literarios que la sociedad ha considerado aptos para los más pequeños, pero que en origen se escribieron pensando en lectores adultos (por ejemplo Los viajes de Gulliver, La isla del tesoro o Platero y yo). Podríamos definir entonces la literatura infantil (y juvenil) como aquella quetambién leen niños (y jóvenes).

Generally, children's literature includes books written for ages 0 to 12. Young Adult Literature begins around age 12, dealing with more sophisticated and developmentally appropriate content foradolescents. Children's books, like adult books, fall into fiction and non-fiction categories. Though non-fiction is considered a source of information, fiction can also be extremely informative for children - offering information about people and places that the child has never been to. Reading also expands a child's vocabulary, and may even increase intelligence. Children's literature issomething to be highly valued, and even adults should never stop reading them.
La literatura infantil incluye libros escritos para las edades de 0 a 12. Literatura para jóvenes comienza alrededor de los 12 años. Los libros para niños, como los libros para adultos, se dividen en las categorías de ficción y no ficción. There are many different types of Children's books, just as you would expect different types of adult books. Above, both the broader categories of non-fiction and fiction were mentioned. Non-fiction can includefolktales, poetry, biographies, country studies, plays, science experiments, and maps, to name a few. Fiction includes many different genres, including historical fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, and science fiction.
Each of these types of books includes reading levels from pre-readers to students reading complex fiction verging on adult fiction. The format of these books can include sturdy boardbooks for babies and toddlers; well-illustrated picture books for toddlers and preschoolers; easy to read and beginning chapter books for developing readers; and chapter books for readers.

Children's literature can be divided in many ways.
Children's literatureby genres
A literary genre is a category of literary composition. Genre should not be confused with age category, by which literature may be classified as either adult, young-adult, or children's. Genres may be determined by technique, tone, content, or length. Nancy Anderson, associate professor in the College of Education at the University of South Florida in Tampa,[1] has delineated six majorcategories of children's literature, with some significant subgenres:[5]
1. Picture books, including board books, concept books (teaching an alphabet or counting), pattern books, and wordless books
