Kolya

The movie is about a concert cellist called Louka. He used to play in the philharmonic orchestra but he loose his place and he start playing in funerals. The movie takes place inCzechoslovakia when they were ruled by the Soviet Union. Louka had a lot of economic problems because he didn’t gain enough money at Prague Crematorium. He started restoring tombs in order to obtain a littlemore money to pay all his debts. Broz, the gravedigger and his friend, offers Louka an “easy” way to obtain money so that he can pay him, he only have to get married with a young Russian woman so shecan obtain the Czechoslovak citizenship then after 6 months they would get divorced, Louka didn’t like that plan because he knows that those things of get married only for money were illegal but hechange his opinion because he really needed the money. So he get married with Nadezhada but the Secret Police started investigating him because Nadezhada emigrated to West Germany to met his boyfriend andshe leaved his son in Czechoslovak to prove that she would return. At that times travel from Ruse to West Germany was impossible but they can travel from Czechoslovakia to West Germany, that’s whyshe wants the Czechoslovak citizenship. At that time the Secret Police was very strict, they were like paranoid, and when they see something or someone suspicious, for them, they stalk them until theyfind something wrong. When Loukas’s wife emigrated to West Germany she left her son with her aunt but she gets sick and the doctors take Kolya with his “father”, Louka. The Secret Police called Loukain order to make him some questions about his wife. He tried to answer them relaxed so that they believe him but as they are so paranoid they tell him that he would have a lot of problems because ofgetting married only for money. Louka had to move from his house because of all the problems that he have with the Secret Police and some others with the Social Security, they want to take Kolya away....
