The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

Benjamin Franklin once said “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.” Clearly he followed his own believes, in his autobiography narrates many aspects of his life and many activities not only as a merely entertain but as an example to follow. His journey narrates from the history of his ancestors to his finals projects infavor to the Colonies.
Benjamin Franklin decided to go on a week retirement to England's countryside with the purpose of write his memoirs. The Autobiography starts with a greeting to Benjamin Franklin's son William, who may like to know about this father's life. Franklin express his gratitude to God for having a good life, even though he admits that he would repeat it and correct some errors andchange some circumstances to his favor. He recalls the importance of writing memoirs as an example to others and urge elder people to do it, as one of his uncles did it for him.
Franklin narrates extensively about his family ancestors especially about his uncle Benjamin from whom he was named. Benjamin Franklin's father, Josiah, came to America with his first wife and their first three childrenaround 1682. Later, Josiah married Abiah Folder to whom he had ten children. Benjamin born in Boston in 1706, he was the eighth from this marriage and the fifteenth from seventeenth in total. Benjamin admired deeply his parents, he demonstrates this by putting a marble grave stone in the Boston graveyard with meaningful word to them.
Benjamin Franklin assisted to grammar school unlike hisbrothers, that as it was a custom became apprentices in numerous activities. He quickly ascent in his class and was sent to a different school where his ability to write was noticed and developed but he also admits his failure in arithmetic. Although, at ten he was taken home to help Josiah in his candle and soap business. Benjamin Franklin expressed his interest in becoming a sailor to his father but hedisagreed. He admits reuniting some friends and convinced them to build a wharf using stones from a close construction without permission. At the end they were discover and punished from what he concludes that “nothing was useful which was not honest.”
Being part of his father business was not pleasant for Benjamin. After trying a few other activities, like cutlery, and due to his inclination tobooks and writing his father decided to sent Benjamin to work with his brother James, who return from England in 1717 with tools to implement a printer. At that time Benjamin was twelve and signed a contract for eight years with his brother. Franklin narrates this period of his life with particular joy, being part of this business allowed him to read more. Benjamin used to take advantage of hisfree time and instead of eating slowly or sleeping he rather to read. This also helped him to improve his writing skills besides the guide of his father guide, whom Benjamin admits would like to be as good as him. Franklin found a volume of “The Spectator” and after reading and analyzing the writing style he was decided to correct and improve his accepting that he ambition was to become a“tolerable” English writer.
As a result of his reading desire, Franklin meet new ideas and concepts. At 16, after reading Tryon's book about to vegetarianism decided to adopt this diet for a period. He also read Locke and Socrates. Franklin remarks that when other used to talked about his arrogance he try to be more modest speaking timidly
Around 1720 or 1721 James Franklin decided to publish the secondnewspaper in America: “New England Courant.” This was a great opportunity for Franklin, since he was concern about his brother reject he decided to publish his first article anonymously. Later, hearing his bother comments on it develop more confidence but did not reveal his identity until he gained other person that he believed were good judges.
