Lesson 1
Do Now
Using multiplication, how many different ways can I create 18
Factors are the numbers we multiply to get a product3 x4 = 12
The factors are 3 and 4
Prime (Numeros primos) – A numbers with only two factors. 1 and itself.
Composite (numeros compuestos – A number with more than 2 factors.
1 is a specialcase because its neither prime or composite
2 is special because it’s the only EVEN prime number
Factors:
Factors of 120
120 = 1 x 120 – every number is divisible by 1. 1 times the number.
Is120 divisible by 2? In order to find that, we ask ourselves, is it an EVEN number? Does it end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8? Yes. So it’s divisible by 2.
120 = 2 x 60
Is it divisible by 3? To find this outwe add up the numbers, if that number is divisible by 3, then it is, if not, then it’s not. 1 + 2 + 0 = 3. So, yes!
120 = 3 x 40
Is it divisible by 4? Look at the last two digits. Are the last 2digits divisible by 4? 20 is divisible by 4
120 = 4 x 30
Is it divisible by 5? Ends with 0 or 5. Yes
120 = 5 x 24
Is it divisible by 6? Is it divisible by 2 AND 3. Yes.
120 = 6 x 20
Is itdivisible by 7? Just try it by long division. We have a remainder. It does not divide evenly. Seven does not work
Is it divisible by 8? Just try it by long division.
120 = 8 x 15
Is it divisible by 9?Add the digits and see if it’s divisible by 9. 1+2+0 = 3. Not divisible by 9, so no.
Is it divisible by 10? Does it end in 0? Yes
120 = 10 x 12
Lesson 2
Prime factorization
Prime numbers –numbers that can only be multiplied by 1 and itself
1 is a special case because its neither prime or composite
2 is special because it’s the only EVEN prime number
We are going to factor somethinguntil all the numbers are prime by making a factor tree
Ex. 12, 24, 90, 17 – Already a prime number, so we can’t do it

2. 30
