A Digital Hospital Increases Performance and Saves Lives
1. Why is IHH considered to be a digital enterprise? The IT is integrated in the everyday life of the IHH very much.It is now the integral part of the hospital. It helps to serve clients better, it boosts employee productivity and it improves operating efficiency. All this points are proved in the minicase text.2. A major environmental pressure in health care is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 regulatory

requirements. In what way can a digital hospital help withcompliance? The necessary requirements can be simply build in the software and hardware which serves the digital hospital, so that the hospital can automatically comply with this set of rules. 3. Relatethis case to the concept of digital society? Well, the society of hospital including doctors, nurses and patients is now definitely digital. The digital system of the hospital is the integral partof their work and communicating. It changes their way of operating and communicating, but at the same time it makes it easier. 4. Can you identify any ethical issues related to such a high levelautomation? All I can think of is doctors writing. In my point of view it is unreadable not because the doctors can’t write it properly, but because doctors write it in this way to comply with ethicalstandards. Nobody except them can read what probable diagnoses are made by them; nobody can understand their conclusions and understand them in the wrong way. Even patient knows only what was told tohim. Now every nurse has an access to the whole story of patient illness and can chat about it and retell patients some “secrets” (just because they are not still proved).

Also now it is obligatoryto provide only truthful information by patients and they can’t hide anything of their history if they want to. And if anyone will get an access to the database of the digital hospital…
