Mike vs. Donny

1. Relationship with Mom: Mike doesn’t have a goodcommunication with his mom, and his mom seems afraid of him so she tries to find a tutor because she gives up trying to help him in not a good way. Donny has a good relationship with his mom,better than Donny’s; he talks to his mom and offers to visit his grandmother because his sister can’t go, which is something he talk with his mom and he suggest to her showing his goodrelationship with her.

2. Relationship with Friends/Girlfriend: Mike has a good relationship with his girlfriend, he loves her and she doesn’t like him because of his beard, shedoesn’t care of the beard. Donny has a lot of friends but they don’t seem to be a good influence for him, but he decides to live a life with those friends making him suffer in hislife.

3. Point of view the story is told (limits): In The Moustache, the story is told in 1st person narrator, Mike narrating, giving more details about Mike’s point of view tounderstand more his character. In Teenage Wasteland the story is told in 3rd person narrator, omniscient, giving details about all characters, but not specific enough to understand Donny’ssituation, and leaving a lot of mysteries and unconcluded ideas.

4. Solution to the conflict and how the stories end: In the end Mike shaves his beard, deciding that his physicalappearance doesn’t work, he doesn’t want to look old or similar to his grandfather. Donny is expelled and changed from school, and then he leaves home and his parents never see himagain.

5. Conflict: The conflict of Mike is between him and himself and parallel to a problem between his grandmother and his grandfather, which is a big influence to Donny.
