Unit 2 Mixtures and Subtances
* Pure subtances
- Chemical elements: they cannot be divide into simpler subtances.
Ex: - Hydrogen - Oxigen – Sodium – etc…
-Chemical compounds:they are made up of 2 or more elements. They are represents by chemical formulas. They can be separated by chemical reactions.
Ex: - Carbon Dioxide -Water – Salt - etc…

*Mixtures
-They are acombination of 2 or more pure subtances that don’t react with each subtances keep it characteristic properties.
-Mixtures can be separated by physical methods as: evaporation, filtration, etc…
-Canbe Homogenous mixture or Heterogeneous mixture
Ex: - juice -air –blood –milo –etc...

Tecniques for separating mixtures
*Evaporation:
-It’s use to separate a liquid and a solid. (water + salt)*Filtration:
-It’s use top separate a liquid, but only when is not soluble in water.
-The mixture is poured through a filter which holds back the bigger solid particles and let the liquid flows.(water + soil)
*Sifting:
-It’s use to separated solid of different sizes.
-The mixture is powered throwgh a sieve.The big particle left to the top and the rest goes down. (sand + stones)*Filtration:
