1. Pope Benedict XVI in México, was it a faith matter or political opportunism?

Just a few days before the presidential elections in Mexico and with a country buried in violence and impunity, the head of the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI visited the land that his predecessor John Paul II had specially entrusted him.http://newsweek.mx/index.php/Mexico/benedicto-xvi-en-mexico-icuestion-de-fe-u-oportunismo-politico.html

There is a lot of speculation around the real reason behind the Pope’s visit to Mexico last month. In this article they talk about the political reasons and how the government had everything planned for His visit right before the presidential elections this July. The best thing we cal do as citizens is make thebest of this visit. It brought a lot of attention and visibility to Mexico so it’s a good opportunity to showcase the positive aspects of the country and not focus on what the ‘real reason’ behind his visit is. I’m sure his visit brought comfort to many catholic believers and it was refreshing to see how many people were in touch with their religious views even if for the Pope’s visit. Religion isa very important part of Mexicans and the Pope’s visit certainly reassured many citizens’ faith.

2. Students in Coahuila, Mexico will receive scholarships in 2012

Scholarships are being awarded to students in the state of Coahuila to help them stay in school, a university primarily. This article mentions that last year there were only 4kstudents who applied for this scholarship. This year they expected more students and teachers to request them for their bright students, as there are 20k spots available. The deadline was March 29th this year so I wonder how many people signed up for it or if people even knew about this. It’s great that the government is taking this on and helping students stay in school, especially those who don’thave the money to do so. One thing that worries me is how are they taking this message to students. I hope it’s information that’s readily available for those who qualify if not, having this would defeat its purpose.

There will be an event to praise andremember the literature that’s bloomed in University City, in Mexico, DF. Lucia Rivadeneyra, a writer from Morelia, Michoacan will be in charge of the event and will commemorate legendary writers like Rubén Bonifaz Nuño, Margit Frenk y Hugo Gutiérrez Vega as it’s mentioned here. It’s quite refreshing to know people today still appreciate literary arts and it sets an example for young generations.Hopefully we can pass this along to our own families especially children and plant in them the need and want for knowing more about literature and timeless authors and books.

It’s very important that people become aware of the huge advantage that a Master’s Degree or aPhD will give the college graduate in the enterprise setting. The article mentions the need for competitive businesses in the country. There are two main TV networks and two telephone service providers just to mention a couple examples. The ones affected are the vast majority since it’s the lower class that can’t afford this and there are no options available to them. Mexico is becoming more ableto from well-prepared and competent professionals so they can start to make a difference in the country’s economy. It’s hard to believe articles like this but I can speak for what’s around me. There are coworkers who have their Master’s Degree and they got it here in Mexico.
