Origin
The French engineer Gustave Eiffel first presented his draft to that responsible tower of Barcelona City Council, to be built in this city on the occasion of the Universal Exposition ofBarcelona (1888), but the Barcelona city hall thought it was a strange construction, and face, would not fit with the city.
Following the refusal of Barcelona, Eiffel, a year later, he presented hisproject to the City of Paris responsible, since that was where was held the next Universal Exposition (1889), which received more than 236 million visitors since its inauguration .. They agreed to buildthe tower, although at first they thought that would be removed once the exhibition. Thanks to the popular will that shot down was avoided.
The structure was begun in 1887 to serve as the entrance archto the Exposition, which commemorated the centenary of the French Revolution. The tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889, and was opened to the public on May 6 of that year.

It was built in two years, two months and five days in controversy with the artists of the time, who saw her as an iron monster. Initially used for testingArmy communications antennas, today only serves attraction, as an issuer of radio and television programs.
The maintenance of the tower includes applying paint fifty tons every five years, in order toprotect it from corrosion. Sometimes changing the paint color (in 2005 the tower showed a brown hue). On the first floor, there are consoles that allow voting in the election of the future color ofthe structure. The original color of the tower was yellow, but today there is nothing left of it.
