Section 1 Assessment: Terms and Names:
1. Nativism- Prejudice against foreign-born people, swept the nation.
2. Isolationism- A policy of pullingaway from involvement in world affairs.
3. Communism- An economic and political system based on a single-party government ruled by a dictatorship.
4. Anarchists- People who opposed any form ofgovernment.
5. Sacco and Vanzetti- Were arrested and charged with the robbery and murder of a factory paymaster and his guard in South Braintree, Massachusetts.
6. Quota System- The Emergency Quota Act of1921 set up.
7. John L. Lewis- In 1919, the United Mine Workers of America, organized since 1890, got a new leader.

Section 2 Assessment

1. Warren G. Harding- Described as a good-natured man who“looked like a president ought to look.”
2. Charles Evans Hughes- Secretary of State, urged that no more warships be built for ten years.
3. Fordney- McCumber Tariff- America adopted, which raisedtaxes on some U.S. imports to 60-percent-the highest level ever.
4. Ohio Gang- The president’s poker-playing cronies, who would soon cause a great deal of embarrassment.
5. Teapot Dome Scandal- Themost spectacular example of corruption.
6. Albert B. Fall- Secretary of the Interior, a close friend of various oil executives, managed to get the oil reserves transferred from the navy to theInterior Department.

1. Calvin Coolidge- The new president, fit into the pro-business of the 1920’s very well.
2. Urban Sprawl- As cities spread in alldirections.
3. Installment Plan- Enabled people to buy goods over an extended period, without having to put down much money at the time of purchase.
