North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
The North American Free Trade Agreement, most known by the name of NAFTA is an accord signed by the governments of Mexico, United States, and Canada. This agreement took force on January 1, 1994.The NAFTA agreement was made mainly with the purpose ofhaving an implement in the trade between these three North American nations. This agreement was originated to redeem three main reasons purposing the benefit of commercialization that are; expand the flow of commercial produce trade between Mexico, United States and Canada. Facilitate the trade between these nations, and the third one; integrate the economies of Mexico, United States and Canada tofacilitate the flowing of products and economy of these already mentioned nations. This agreement created the world largest free trade area that is NAFTA. This organization is one of the most important trade accords in history and it has contributed generously in the agricultural field, which is one of fastest growing industries in these countries and also to facilitate the increment ininvestments between United States, Canada and Mexico. This agreement also brings benefits to most of the farmers, ranchers and consumers throughout North America. NAFTA had helped United States, Canada and Mexico economies in enormous ways, the agriculture in these countries has grown, they started to trade more produce between them with no commission fees, the imports and exports between these countrieshave increased in an enormous way and made profits of billions and trillions of dollars a year, the investments in these countries help to improve and raise the economies of the countries specially because they provide jobs to many people. The NAFTA was made by the representatives of US, Mexico, and Canada with the purpose of incrementing the economy and commerce between these nations. NAFTA has abig influence in the agriculture. It helps the producers to compete in the international market. Globalization is benefiting the big producers, because they have wealth and technology to produce more products that will be competitive in the global market and benefit the economy in a great way. As any other treatment the NAFTA has his positive and negative things that could benefit for someproducers or hurt others who cannot compete in the market..
On the other side, NAFTA has a negative impact for many people some of whom are the little companies that used to manage import and export of produce before NAFTA was put into motion.
Negotiation and ratification
The presidents of the US, Mexico and Canada prime minister signed an agreement to promote the trade between these countries in orderto get an increase these countries’ economies. This treaty was a symbol of unity between nations seemed to be segregated and enemies in past wars. Wikipedia (2010) North American Free Trade Agreement states that in 1991 the president of the United States, the prime minister of Canada and the president of Mexico attended a meeting in San Antonio, Texas. They were together in order to promote theagreement and sign it. Before the agreement was placed, the United States and Canada had changed their presidents that postponed the agreement. At the beginning was Carlos Salinas de Gortari president of Mexico, George H W Bush who was the president of the United States and the prime minister of Canada Kim Kampbell. Then after the elections of the United States, appears Bill Clinton to conclude andstart working with the agreement. The purpose of the negotiations between these countries was to increase the investments between these countries and eliminate the trade barriers in order to help increase the economy of these nations.
