PREFACE TO THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY

I think that Oscar Wild in his preface uses an aphorism and theorizes about his own art. With this, he tries todefend accusations he recived:“There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.”
Although thisstatement could seem quite rude, it is a beautician manifest. He tries to explain that art and moral are two diferents things.
He wants to show that art is somethingthat the artist does to enphasize the aesthetic (making sure that always is pretty, nice etc.)

From my point of view, in this preface there are somecontraditions taking into account arta and morality.
On the one hand, Wild says that there are no moral books, but I think that there is a little contradition whenhe says “The moral life of man forms part of the subject matter of the artist(...)”. If moral life of the human forms part of the subject matter when the artistwrites, there will be a relationship between art and moral some way .
I think that this idea is an excuse to scape from the critics he recived. (We shouldrealize that this preface was published when the second edition was published).

On the other hand, stressin the point of view of Wild that art and moral are twodiferents things, we can realize thinking deeply that with the statement: “It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors.” there is anothercontradition as there always will be connection between art and morality because art is always dedicated to the human and the human always prones to judge everything.
