Follow these steps to unblock your PIN or set your PIN for the first time.
Before you start
Before you can unblock yoursmart card PIN, you must have:
Your smart card
A smart card reader installed on your computer
The smart card MSITPintool software installed on your computer
Access to your corporate e-mailaccount
Note A smart card is a Microsoft building access card embedded with a microprocessor and a small amount of storage. You use a smart card with an access code to enable certificate-basedauthentication.
Unblock your smart card PIN (also for first-time PIN set)
1. Insert your smart card into the smart card reader.
2. Double click on the Microsoft Pin Tool V3 icon on the desktop.
a) Ifthere is no Microsoft Pin Tool V3 icon on your desktop, follow one of the procedures here to access Microsoft Pin Tool V3.
i) Click the Start button.
ii) Click All Programs.
iii) Click MicrosoftIT Smart Untilities.
iv) Click Microsoft Pin Tool v3.
OR
i) Click the Start button.
ii) In the Search box, type Microsoft Pin Tool v3.
3. In the logon dialog box click Unblock.
4. Enter yourdomain\alias and password in the User Name and Password fields. Then then click Logon
Note For MSIT administrators who have an alternate smart card that needs to be unblocked, enter your primaryaccount credentials into the logon field. For example, if your primary account is Redmond\steveb, enter that information at logon to unblock your alternate smart card account.
5. Click the Unblock tab6. Select a Reason from the drop down menu.
o If Other is selected, enter a reason in the field below the drop down list.
7. Create a PIN following the conventions described here.
Yoursmart card PIN must meet the following requirements:
* Be 5 to 8 characters long
* Contain both alpha and numeric characters
