Part I: Why Ellie?

Elena Jane Goulding, is a British singer and song-writer. She became mostly famous due to the single “Lights” which became N°2 billboard Hot 100.

She is a singer-songwriter, musician, record producer. The genre of her music is: electropop, synthpop and pop. Among thisshe can play different instruments such as the guitar, piano, bass and mandolin.

She started songwriting at the age of 9 but not necessarily songs, it was like a journal, and then it became songs when she was around 15. It was in the university when she started to play music, and she got into a competition with no preparation and just with her guitar, and she won. That was when a musicmanager contacted her. (Vevo, 2011)

When I first listened to her I didn´t like her very much. She was included in DJ´s Earworm remix, “Like, OMG Baby “.She doesn´t participate much in the music, but what happened is that I search for all the songs of the remix. And when I found her video, that it was “Starry Eyed” the Uk video music version, I didn’t like it at all, but Still I loved theremix and while I was listening to the song, every time, I started to get used to her voice, but then I found the music video lights and with that song I became fan of her.

After some time, I started to search more songs, her songs of course, and what happened is that I like her even more.

Why I like her even more, is because her incredible voice. She has a voice that you cannotfind anywhere else. Her airy and light voice is a slight of raspiness, which its mix with a sweet and warmth sound of her voice.
It gives her vocal runs in an interesting and unique style.

I download her Cd “Bright Lights”, and when I listened to it, are realized that her songs are really cheerful, and has happy melodies, even those more romantic has a fast rhythm.


For a while Icouldn´t stop to listen to her, but after some time I started to got bored, it tends to happens to me all the time, after some time I need to change the music I listen.

When we were assigned to do this portfolio, I knew I was right in choosing to her, because when I listened to her again, I re-fall in love with her music. Actually I forgot some of the songs and the melody of one of them.I think that with this portfolio, I bond with her music once more time, and I definitely selected her music as part of my personal soundtrack. But my enthusiasm of listening to her again, will soon vanish, till I feel like to listening to her again.



Part II: Ellie´s music.

Ellie Goulding has released till this days, 3 albums, and I´ve chosen “Bright Lights” which is thesecond part of her first Cd “Lights”

What I like of this Cd, is the sound that each song has and how her voice goes through the melodies of her music.

The Cd has seventeen songs, all of them with a similar topic, “love”. I tend to think that most of pop artist their main subject is love, sadness, breakups and the whole process of falling in love.


So as she is a popsong-writer most of her songs talk about those topics. But, besides all of this, what I truly like is that the rhythm makes the songs happy and colorful, even if it a sad lyric and she says that most of her writing is about the opposite sex, because she finds it fascinating the way that human being treats with each other. (Vevo, 2011)

However, I must say, and as I described before, the rhythm iswhat it catches me to continue to listen to her.

The sound of the drums, the guitars, and the electronic sound of the synthesizer on each and every song that there is on the Cd and those that don´t belong to it, is what trapped me to listen to her. Like a new song she released that it´s not included in Bright Lights, but it has the same line of the Cd´s songs.
