Brazil’s president is Dilma Rousseff and shewas elected on October 31st, 2011. My country is ruled by a democratic republic with a presidential system. According to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, Brazil is the largest economy inLatin America and the second on the continent, behind the United States-, the sixth largest economy in the world by nominal PIB and the seventh largest in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP).

OnMarch 5, 2012 it was the second regular meeting of the Steering Committee of the Internet in Brazil (CGI provides Internet Steering Committee in Brazil), and by Resolution CGI.br/RES/2012/003/P, theagency clearly positioned against the U.S. draft bill frozen Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). The decision considers that the draft SOPA is repressive and a threat to the Internet in Brazil. Taking intoaccount also the various demonstrations of protest and resistance that was on the Internet against the U.S. draft.
The draft considers that a possible adoption of American law would have verynegative effects on the functioning and development of Internet in Brazil. It also states that the implementation of legal and technological measures such as those projected in SOPA violate severalprinciples and guarantees recognized in the Decalogue Concepts of that committee.
The Internet Steering Committee was established in 1995 and was redefined by President Inacio "Lula" da Silva in 2003. Aimsto coordinate and integrate all the initiatives of Internet services in Brazil. It consists of members from government, business sector, academic community and third sector in that country.
