How to Make Silly Putty with Starch

Silly Putty was first invented in 1943, but didn't hit the market as "Silly Putty" until 1950. According to a report from theMassachusetts Institute of Technology, Silly Putty has had a number of uses over the years, from entertaining children of all ages, to going on the Apollo 8 space mission whereastronauts used it to secure tools in place. Silly Putty is even promoted as a stress relief and physical rehabilitation toy for adults. The putty forms from a chemical reactionbetween two substances: white glue and liquid scratch. And you can make your own silly putty with materials you may have at home: liquid starch and white glue.
InstructionsThings you'll need:
White glue bowl Spoon
Food coloring (optional) Airtight container
liquid starch

1 Mix one part of liquid starch with two parts glue.You may want to try mixing small amounts at first, until you get a feel for how to make the putty.
2 Mix the ingredients together well, using a spoon or your hands.
3 Allowthe mixture to dry in the bowl until it is of a workable consistency. If the consistency needs to be perfected, add more glue or more starch. Add glue if it is too soft, andadd a bit more starch if it is too tough.
4 Add a couple of drops of food color if you wish to change the color of your putty. Only use two to three small drops and knead itin with your hands.
5 Store the putty in a plastic bag or airtight container.
