The teachings and practices of the movement which corresponds to the Rastafarians come from the Old Testament, the bible. The Rastafarian momentum begins with three people, the first"philosophers" of this ideological line, which were the sailor and Bible scholar Archibald Dunkley, Leonard Howell, who traveled to Africa and the United States, and Joseph Hibbert, who had contact withthe Old Mystic Order of Ethiopia in Panama. The religion began in Jamaica since Marcus Garvey was interested on the equal rights of politics and economy of black and white people, but he became morethan that, he became a prophet for the slavery black descendants. One of his predictions was there was going to be a liberator of the black race. On November 2nd 1930 in Ethiopia Ras Tafari Makonnenwas crowned as King , he was the last representative of God in Earth, many believed that this was the one from the predictions. The three prophets named before began to propagate the divinity of HaileSelassie separately. Makonnen called himself “Emperor Haile Selassie I, Conquering lion of the tribe of Judah, Elect of God and King of the kings of Ethiopia.” This religion is very cultural since itbasically was form to reject all kind of oppression and slavery black people suffer from mostly in Jamaica.
Rastafarians understand ultimate reality in the way they believe that the “Earth’srightful ruler” called JAH lives inside of each person. They follow the path of truth by themselves and reject the power of the society. Rasta means a state of the mind which is calm, which is the form oflife they live, living in peace. Euthopia is for them the Promised Land based on the bible passages. In order to reach ultimate reality a true Rasta also only eats I-tal food. They smoke marihuana as aform of medicine and the way of helping themselves to meditate better
