The Raven is one of the most famous poems of Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published on 29thJanuary 1845 in the newspaper New York Evening Mirror. It describes mentally tortured man who lost his love Lenore.
The poem causes inside me mixed feelings, on the one hand I feel sadness andmelancholy that are uncomfortable feelings but on the other hand there is a man who only wants one thing in the world: to be back with woman he loves. Although the young man is very sad about deathbeloved woman I feel great love and devotion and this evokes me some kind of pleasant feelings. I think that author describes his feelings and thoughts in detail and he was able to create a uniqueatmosphere, his own poetic world.
In the poem Poe illustrated the most poetic and deepest theme of all the existing issues and that is the death of beloved wife.
In my opinion this is one of thereason why is this poem so emotional and deep. I think that love and death are the main aspect of human life. And this idea brings Poe up in his work The Philosophy of composition. In addition to talesand detective stories Poe also worked with a critique. He wrote his own philosophy of composition where he specialized in composition of Raven. He said he is a surviving lover and death of women andbeauty of women are both undoubtedly the most important poetic topics on the world.
” The death, then, of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world — and equally isit beyond doubt that the lips best suited for such topic are those of a bereaved lover. ”
Poe brings Lenore up constantly in the poem, and even when he tries to think about something else, healways ends up back at her.
Although she is the main focus of the speaker's obsessive thoughts I  don't actually learn that much about her.
