Reality Shows on Paraguayan TV
Reality shows are TV programs that show the reflection of the society where we live. This kind of showrecords what happens to real people in many different situations, making their private lives become public. In some cases, people don’t know that they are being recordedby a camera. Realities are a very popular style of tv shows around the world since the late 90’s, and obviously, Paraguay is not free of these TV shows, in fact, showslike “Baila Conmigo Paraguay”, “Rojo”, “Calle 7” and more became the most successful in the history of Paraguayan television, reaching the highest points in rating scales.Producers and advertisers spend millions and millions in such television projects. ¿What makes realities so successful in Paraguay?
There are so many reasons. In mypersonal opinion, it happens because television became a big business and the quality is not as important anymore as it was in the past. Also, audience is now more exigent,because there are many options, so they watch what they want or just change the TV channel. I think Paraguayan people want entertainment in a try to escape of dailytroubles and they don’t care about the poor content of these programs, which show from “naked” people dancing to couples discussing their private troubles in front of ajudge. It is strange, because Paraguayans scape from their problems… to watch the problems of other people.
In conclusion, everyday appears a new reality show in Paraguay,but we have the big power to decide to watch it or not. It depends on our personal tastes, the use we give to television at home, and what we need to receive from a show.
