“REFORM TO IMPROVE THE PUBLIC EDUCATION”
Public universities have been the best throughout Colombian history because of some reasons. One of them is because public universities are autonomousand they can offer whatever they want in the way they want.
I think the new reform to public education is against the students’ values because nobody, especially the private investment, willinvest money in a university just because. It is obvious they want to get something back. On the other hand, the government wants to expand the universities population but the money given is verylittle.
The new reform has been implemented in other countries such as Mexico and Brazil but the results were not good at all. It also happens in European countries and it was successful becausethey made stronger their own markets then they implemented it. Taking into account the above mentioned we can say that Colombia is not ready to approve this reform. It is true that publicuniversities are in crisis but I think this is not the best solution. If the reform is not a good solution, what else we can do? First of all the departmental and the national government have to helpuniversities. HOW? They have to give on time the money for the universities operation and raise the budget to have more full time teachers and better tools to offer a good education, I mean tocreate not only students but people who can analyze and discuss the different topics about politics, economies, etc. That is why the government cannot suppress the university autonomy. If they do itthey will affect every Colombian, especially the poorest, who wants to succeed.
Finally, you and I have to participate in the discussion about this reform because we cannot allow thegovernment to make a decision which makes damage to people who study in a public university.
