The Renaissance

The Renaissance expresses a movement in an era which returns to the study of the classical greek philosophies. In painting, the renewal towards the classical style comes to existthrough the examination of nature and the application of the laws of perspective. In music many of the elements of the other arts were transferred into music through new methods of constructingmelody,harmony, rhythm and texture. By the time of the high renaissance there was an intense emphasis on beauty and pleasure, translated into the arts through vibrant colors, idealized representation,sensuous melodies, and triadic harmony. All of these, as a result of people adopting the ideals of humanism.
Without a doubt, the most important element of the movement, is the change of ideals throughthe believing of human kind as the center of the universe. People started to believe that they had to enjoy life. It was not about securing a place in heaven, as much as it was about enjoying thehuman status along the way to heaven. Literature began to be less regulated by the church; ergo, it was easier to surround people with the humanist ideas. These humanist ideas had only been presentduring the classical era. therefore, humanist opted for propagating the classical authors they had learned from. Although there were two styles of humanism, that of Machiavelli and the one dictated byErasmus of Rotterdam, the main principles were very similar if not the same. Nevertheless, Erasmus’ way of thinking inspired an individualistic, toleration oriented principle; while Machiavelli,expressed a more strict discipline with government intervention.
Although Rome was very powerful politically because of the Pope. Florence was the place in which the humanist ideals affected art the most;at least, in the Quattrocento, the XV century. Florence was a place that supported the arts, because the principles of the city were supposably to enhance life with beauty and education. Florence...
