Riviera Maya, Cancún Quintana Roo
The Riviera Maya, as a tourist destination, was created in 1999 by local public authorities in the municipalterm ofPresident Miguel Ramón Martín Azueta licensed. Since then, the Riviera Maya became, along with Cancun, the most important tourist destination in Mexico and one of the most popular internationally.
This is a coastline of 120 kilometers long,extending off the waters of the Caribbean, from Puerto Morelos,35 km from Cancun, to Carrillo Puerto, in the heart of the reserve of Sian Ka'an Biosphere , and ends up a town called Punta Allen.

The ancient Maya had a great worship Ixchel, the goddess of the moon, tides, andfertility. Each year made a pilgrimage to visit her main sanctuary, located in Cozumel. The main point of departure was Pole (today Xcaret) and crossed over there in wooden canoes in order to worshipIxchel and consult his oracle, the only one in the entire region.
This practice disappeared with the arrival of the Spanish and today, after 500 years it has become a cultural tourist attraction,which takes place at the Xcaret park, organized by the park itself and the Secretary of Tourism of the Riviera Maya.
