Rules for comparative and superlative
1. - One syllable word: we add “er” to form comparative and “est” for the superlative.
Ex.
Ads | Comparative | Superlative |
short |shorter | The shortest |
My pencil is shorter than the Maria
2. One syllable word: with one vowel before the last consonant
Ex
Ads | Comparative | Superlative |
big |bigger | The biggest |
My house is bigger than john

3. Two syllables adjective: we most use “more” to form the comparative and “most” for the superlative.
Ex
Ads |Comparative | Superlative |
bitter | More bitter | The most bitter |
Lemon is the most bitter citrus
4. If the two syllable adjective ends with “e” we use “r” to make thecomparative and “st” for the superlative.
Ex
Ads | Comparative | Superlative |
wide | wider | The widest |
The room of my house is wider than the hotel
5. Two syllables wordsending in “y” we change “y” by “I” and then add “er” to comp. and “est.” to superlative.
Ex
Crazy | Crazier | The craziest |
Pretty | Prettier | The prettiest |
Silly | Sillier | Thesilliest |
My girlfriend is the prettiest
6. More than two syllable adjective we also add 2more” and the “most” as well as two syllable adjective.
Beautiful | More beautiful| The most beautiful |
Interesting | More interesting | The most interesting |
Dinosaurs were the most intelligent
