I am Armida Melgar. I am 24 years old. I was born in San Miguel which is the second most important city in El Salvador. Ispent 21 years of my life in El Salvador before I moved to the United States. My first year in the U.S was difficult. I started taking English classes at a language school in the morning and I used towork in the afternoon. I couldn’t finish the English school because I had to earn money to help my mother. At the end of 2011, I took classes at a beauty school and I got a manicurist license. I gotmarried on March 23, 2012. After I got married and I found a better job, I felt it was the time to go back to school and build a better future for my family and me. I live in an apartment in NorthBergen with my husband, my mother and my two brothers.

I am a serious person, I always hold myself responsible for my own actions. For instance, the day when my father gave me my first credit card,he told me that: "You have to use the credit card only for emergency", but I didn't listen him. I payed my cellphone bill with my credit card. I knew it was my responsibility because I payed somethingwith my credit card, and it wasn't an emergency. I had to save money every week for one month, but I could pay it.

One of my strongest qualities is bravery because when I felt on the floor, I hadthe courage to start again. In other words, I had the bravery to start a new life after my father died, and the political persecution that my family and me have lived in my country. It was the hardestexperience in my life, but the life doesn’t end in a bad experience.

I enjoy having a good time with my family and friends. I always go out with my husband on Saturdays, most of the time we goto restaurants, but we try to choose a different restaurant every Saturday. I also spend time with my mother. We drink a cup of coffee every afternoon and we catch up about our family’s recent news....
