1. SPEECH ACTS
According to Yule, a speech act is the one in which the speaker carry out an action through a different kind of expressions that are divided in specificpurposes such as apologizing , complaining, promising, ordering, greeting, warning etc. Moreover, these speech acts are rifted into thee: the locutionary act, which express “the actual utterance andits ostensible meaning.” (J.L. Austin; How To Do Things With Words, 1962), the illocutionary act, by which the speaker performs utterances with a specific intention; Finally it is mention theprelocutionary act, which is basically the supposition of the speaker that the listener will understand the message, is intended to express.
On the other hand, these speech acts are classified into five sortsof purposes that are declarations, representatives, expressives, directives and commisives.
This text attempt to classify and analyze this types of speech acts in a video, but first it is veryimportant to explain what each one means. According to Yule; the declarations speech acts are the one in which the speaker has to have a special institutional work and intend, by their utterances, to changethe world. The representative speech acts “are those kinds of acts that state the speakers´ beliefs”. The expressives speech acts, as its name says, are the expressions of the speaker´s feelings.Directives speech acts are utterances used in order to make other people to do something and finally the Commisive speech acts are the expressions used in order to transmit a speaker´s intention to dosomething in the future.
