Cause and Effect: Anabolic Steroids

Most of the time, when steroids are mentioned, they’re brought up as the reason a particular athlete can run so fast, hit so many home runs, or make so manytackles. They are also claimed to have extraordinarily harsh side effects and for causing severely unforgiving and permanent damage. By reading this article, coaches, athletes, parents and teachers willlearn the truth about anabolic steroid side effects, and will be able to make their own informed decisions regarding them. But I suspect that after reading what I have to say, as well as what thescientific literature says, the question of how bad steroids are will be a different question entirely; the only question remaining will be "why didn´t anyone told me this before?"
Even scarier, there isevidence that teens today are more afraid of NOT experimenting with and using steroids. It is crucial to understand the reasons if we are to attempt to find a solution.
Some of the reasons thatteens gave were: Not making the sports team, Not meeting peer pressure and demands, Not "getting the girls”, Not being able to compete with others who are using steroids
Not looking as good as youcould. Parents and coaches can also be found guilty of placing emphasis on young athletes: They often push young athletes into sports development programs. They glorify youngsters who are willing to risktheir bodies and morals in order to win. They demand that young athletes aspire to greatness at any cost.
Today’s teens have seen many of their athletic role models admit to some form of steroid useat some time in their lives. This may be giving them mixed messages. It may suggest that steroid use is the necessary ingredient to developing a career in sports.
