The Canadian government has several arguments to the seal harvest. They justify it saying that it provides direct employment to the fishermen, food, fuel, clothing andother products; not just for Canada but for other countries like Norway and Japan. Also, they argument that the methods that are used to kill the mammals are considerate to behumane, preventing the suffering of the animals; that’s why they refuse the fact that the seal are skinned alive; instead, they support that the seals show muscleactivity (“swimming reflex”) even after death. Giving the false impression that the seal still alive.
However, this evil practice isn’t economically important because the sealhunting seasons are only three times a year so the fisherman must work in other activities the rest of the time. Consequently, it doesn’t represent a big source of incomes.According to the Newfoundland government, the seal hunting represents only 1% of the province’s economy.
There are many different kinds of food, materials for make clothesand fuel so there’s no need to kill and destroy more our world only for our welfare.
We don’t see the humane behavior or method in torturing and taking an innocentbeing’s life away. According to the web site of the Humane Society of the United States a report made by an independent team of veterinarians in 2001 who studies the hunt, concluded that each killing method is demonstrably cruel because sealers shoot at seals from moving boats and pin or stick the killing instruments in the pups eyes or cheeks, then, the hunter drag the crying and wounded mammals through the ice. Additionally, they concluded that in the 42% of the cases the seals were skinned alive while conscious.
