Rev Estomatol Herediana 2005;15(1): 30 - 35 RESUMEN Se presenta unaevaluación clínica para determinar si existen diferencias entre el bloqueo mandibular producido por la técnica troncular convencional directa y la técnica Gow-Gates en pacientes que necesitaron exodoncias mandibulares, considerando como indicadores: dolor a la penetración e inyección anestésica, tiempo de aparición de los primeros síntomas de anestesia, territorio anestesiado a los 5, 10 y 15minutos, penetración intravascular, anestesia del nervio Bucal Largo y resultado anestésico. Se observó a 57 pacientes sin contraindicación en el uso de anestésicos en los que se empleó Lidocaína al 2% con Epinefrina 1:80,000 con la técnica anestésica previamente seleccionada de forma aleatoria, atendidos en la clínica de la Escuela de Estomatología de la Universidad Nacional de Trujillo. Los resultadosobtenidos muestran que no existen diferencias en cuanto al tiempo de aparición de los síntomas anestésicos, al territorio anestesiado a los 5, 10 y 15 minutos ni a la penetración intravascular; pero si en cuanto al dolor a la penetración e inyección anestésica, anestesia del nervio Bucal Largo y resultado anestésico, estableciendo ventajas para la técnica Gow-Gates. A clinical evaluation is presented to determine if differences existbetween the mandibular block through the technical conventional inferior alveolar nerve block and the Gow-Gates technique in patients that needed mandibular molar surgery, considering as indicators: pain to the penetration and anaesthetic injection, time of appearance of the first symptoms of anaesthesia, anaesthetized territory at 5, 10 and 15 minutes, positive intra-vascular injection, anaesthesiaof the Buccal nerve and anaesthetic result. 2% Lidocaine with 1:80000 epinephrine with the anaesthetic technique randomly selected was used in 57 patients without contraindication in the use of anaesthetics. They were assisted in the Clinic of the School Dentistry of the National University of Trujillo. The results show that there are no differences about the time of appearance of the anaestheticsymptoms, about the territory anaesthetized at 5, 10 and 15 minutes neither to the intra-vascular injection; but there are differences when considering pain to the penetration and anaesthetic injection, the anaesthesia of the Buccal nerve and anaesthetic result, establishing advantages for the Gow-Gates technique.
