Purpose:
I chose this experimental topic because it is a very intriguing topic that most people don’t know about.
Investigation:
The orange oils found in theorange peels are used to create flammable liquids such as cleaning products. The orange peels also have the advantage of creating a pleasant odor when burning. In this experiment I am going to put totest if orange peels are good fire starters. With friction of a stick and a rock we are going to create heat that will react with the oils in the orange peels, thus if my hypothesis is correct it willfire up quickly. Although with sticks you can start fires but orange peels keep the fire steady and it’s a natural flammable oil which fire ups faster.

Hypothesis: Due to the high content offlammable oil called Limonene in orange peels they will fire up faster than friction with sticks.

Materials:
* Orange
* Dry rock
* Dry sticks
* Knife

Procedure:

1. Cut a holewith the knife into the orange. Be sure you take the top off but you don’t cut through the orange itself.
2. Try to get as much juice off the orange that you can.
3. Place the rock inside thehole of the orange.
4. Because we are going to use friction on this you should make sure that a portion of the rock where we are going to rub the stick is dry.
5. Next take the dry stick andrub it on the rock just enough to create a small spark, and because the orange peel contains a flammable oil it will light up rapidly.
